PINK POWER MOMS” UNITE IN ATLANTA FOR DAY OF PAMPERING AND RECOGNITION

Bright Starts™ Celebrates the Stories of Eight Mothers Who Survived Breast Cancer

(Alpharetta,GA) – Tuesday, October 09, 2007

Bright Starts™, an infant and toddler product and baby gear brand, celebrates the “Power of Pink” by announcing the winners of its “Pink Power Moms” search. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the eight outstanding women will be recognized during the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pink Tie Ball taking place in Atlanta, Georgia on October 13th.

“Pink Power Moms” Unite!

In April, Bright Starts™ launched a search for inspirational mothers who had overcome breast cancer, and used their fight as a lesson to all, especially their children. The eight specially selected winners will unite in Atlanta for a weekend of wellness and will be recognized at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pink Tie Ball.  During the weekend of October12th, each of the selected moms will be provided luxurious accommodations at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta, along with a day of spa treatments courtesy of Spa on Paces. Prior to the actual ball on October 13th, each mom will have a photo taken with philanthropist Jane Fonda, and then presented with checks to be donated to the breast cancer organization of their choice. The evening will culminate with the moms being recognized during the ball by breast cancer survivor and Atlanta media maven/icon, Monica Kaufmann Pearson.

One Survivor’s Story
From the moment of her diagnosis at 32, Deb Kirkland, a mother of two, was determined to fight cancer. However, she wanted to do more than make this fight her own. Deb immediately noticed that there was a lack of resources available for women who were diagnosed young like herself. She took it upon herself to start the “Young Survival Coalition of Greater Baltimore.” This support group secured a Susan G. Komen grant to educate college students and newly-diagnosed women in low-income neighborhoods about breast cancer. Today, Deb remains committed to fighting cancer and is a Bright Starts™ “Pink Power Mom!”

During the month of October, the winners will also be featured in a national advertising campaign with their inspirational stories shared throughout the nation. A donation to the breast cancer charity of their choice will then be given in their name.

The Bright Starts™ Pink Power Moms for 2007 are:

  • Mary Hamrick- Huntersville,
    North Carolina
  • Sonia Kohler- Washington, Michigan
  • Ouida Duncan- Lehigh Acres, Florida
  • Cathy Gailey- Fayetteville, Georgia
  • Deb Kirkland- Baltimore, Maryland
  • Kerry Best Flood- Sandwich, Massachusetts
  • Eliza Brock- Loveland, Colorado
  • Sandra Spengler Perry- Corvallis, Oregon

“This group of Bright Starts™ ‘Pink Power Moms’ represent an array of amazing women who have triumphed over the adversity of breast cancer. These women are true heroes,” say Ryan Gunnigle, President and CEO of Kids II, Inc.

Earlier this year, the Kids II Foundation initiated the Pink Ribbon Campaign - a corporate commitment to contributing volunteer hours and funds to support breast cancer research and awareness.   As part of this commitment, the Kids II Foundation guarantees a minimum donation of $100,000 from proceeds of sales from the Bright Starts™ Pink Collection™ to benefit breast cancer research.

Pretty in Pink Dollars Make a Difference

This campaign also presents a “win-win” for Bright Starts™ consumers – by purchasing Pink Collection™ items, moms can help find a cure for breast cancer while also supporting the development of their babies from infancy through early childhood.

Since January 1, 2007, a portion of the proceeds from the top selling Bright Starts™ Pretty In Pink™ Cradling Bouncer and other Pink Collection™ items launched throughout the year has been donated to support breast cancer research.  There are currently 20 items included in the Pink Collection™.

“Partnering our Bright Starts™ Pink Collection with a Pink Ribbon Campaign is a natural partnership, with the power to make a difference,” says Gunnigle.  “We are excited for this opportunity to support a cause so important to our employees, our consumers and especially to today’s baby girls.”

 Pink is Hot!

Fueling the success of Bright Starts™ Pink Ribbon Campaign is moms’ renewed passion for everything pink.  According to Kids II, pink is back as the color for baby – as demonstrated by the red hot success of Bright Starts™ Pretty in Pink™ Cradling Bouncer.  Today’s moms are embracing their fun and feminine connection with their baby girls by seeking out all things pink.

The comfortable, stylish and functional Bright Starts™ Pretty in Pink™ Cradling Bouncer will be updated this winter with a fresh, new on-trend pink motif that appeals to today’s moms.  This popular bouncer will continue to benefit baby with seven melodies, volume control, and soothing vibration. The soft, one-handed, removable toy bar provides mom with easy access to baby and puts four fun toys within baby’s reach: a flower water-filled teether, plush flower mirror, spinning rattle ball, and plush butterfly with crinkle wings. A newer version of the bouncer will be available in 2008.
